DR. LANÉ BOTHMA PAEDIATRICS
Frequently asked questions
General
It is recommended to schedule your newborn's first consultation with Dr Lané Bothma at six weeks after birth. This initial visit allows for a thorough assessment of your baby's health, including weight, feeding patterns, jaundice screening, and initial developmental checks to ensure a strong start.
Routine well-child visits with Dr Lané Bothma are advised at key milestones: At 6 weeks, 3 months, 6 months, 9 months, 12 months, then every 6 months until 18 months and 24 months, followed by annually thereafter. These appointments monitor growth and development to support your child's ongoing health.
If your child has a fever above 38°C, keep them comfortable with light clothing and hydration, and use age-appropriate paracetamol or ibuprofen as advised. For babies under 3 months of age, contact Dr Lané Bothma’s practice immediately to make an appointment or go straight to the nearest emergency unit for assessment. For older children, seek prompt evaluation if the fever persists beyond 24–48 hours, or if accompanied by lethargy, rash, breathing difficulties, or other concerning symptoms.
Consultations with Dr Lané Bothma focus on your child's history, examination, and personalised advice. Parents are encouraged to prepare a list of concerns in advance, ensuring a collaborative approach to address developmental, behavioural, or acute health matters effectively.
